Good Friday! Hooray! Its indeed a very Good Friday! I'm so lucky to be able to get my PH today, and tmr and Sunday are my day offs! hehe.. I went to meet my besties after work yest evening to catch "Freedom Writers"!! Yipee! Its a really really really good film, about racism, and how these students fight for every single day to stay alive..Then, it shows how Hilary Swank unites her class 203, and how she improves their grades through journal writing..Very inspiring yet touching movie plot..
Yesterday, i had a huge surprise from my besties too..When Diana unzipped her bag, i saw a cute little furball inside a small little pink container, i was speechless! My hammie the third! haha..i was so so so so happy, and shocked with disbelief at the same time! I am really caught by surprise this time round gals..Thanks a lot..It was really sweet of you gals to get me a new little furball..She looks just like my old hammies, just a lil smaller, and her fur is whiter and softer with a lil tinge of brown..haha..Haven't really have a fixed name for her..haha..Anyway, i've already told you that she is now admitted into yun's private hammie ICU, where special care and concern will be upon hammie..Do not worry! hehe..
Yesterday has been an amazing day, though the day in the ward has been a little hectic.. Since Tuesday onwards, i've already attained the status of being an immortal..Not eating only until after work..Which also means skipping dinner, late night suppers, late lunches..Oh my poor stomach..Not going to the toilet..Oh my poor bladder..And not drinking water..Why was i so busy then, you would ask..
Well, I started with 3 cases on Monday, which wasn't so bad..On Tuesday, i was already told to take 6 cases, but lucky me only had 4 patients as 2 were discharged..On Wednesday, i had 5 patients, and yesterday, i was supposed to take my 1 cubicle of 6 patients, but my SN wanted me to take on 9 cases, and yes, it was AM shift..I was totally like a clerk yesterday..After report at 8, i checked my patients a bit, served medication, and i was told to start my report writing already.. Yes, it sounds ridiculous right, but i didn't regret starting then because other than writing report, i had to follow up with doctors' changes, patients interrupting me along the way for things like urinal etc..It was kind of confusing, and chaotic..I've never felt so disorganised before..Finally, when i thought that i finshed my report writing at 12, (yes, i took 3 hours to write them!) i went to help out with a dressing, and serving of afternoon meds, then i went to check through my reports again, and the IMR to see if i missed out anything..And to my absolute horror, i missed out the report of 1 patient! Panic attack lor..but luckily it wasn't a difficult case to write..I managed to pass my reports over to the SN at the end of the day..But still, what a close shave! phew..
Recently, a year 2 junior of mine asked me a question which i totally did not expect. She asked, "What is 1 thing that you find most meaningful in your job?" I was stumped..I could only say, "I've never really thought about this.." And its got me thinking, what is it? what is it?
After giving it some thought, i think i have the answer..I feel very good when i get thanked for, and feel that all that i did was truly being appreciated by my patients..When my patients get discharged, they would shake my hands and have that very wide smile on their faces..Seeing that, i know that i've done the best for my patients, and have earned a little bit of respect from them..
Speaking of which , i lost a bit of respect to ths particular doctor..He nearly gave the wrong IV drug to my patient..He did not check the basic 5 rights loh..It was a wrong patient, wrong bed no. even! Luckily i was there in time to save the patient and also to save the Doctor from writing an incident report..He has already inserted the needle into the port, just left with the step of pushing the plunger and the medicine would have gone in..Close call..
The moral of the story is, have a good conscience, andDO NO HARMto our patients. It won't kill you if you were to take an extra 1min to check your patient's name and IC no. loh..
