1 day of rest, 5 days of stress.
Saturday was spent with sis and hui xian, after work we went to attend a shu umera demonstration. And they served delicious little pastries..haha! Ended up eating half the time..Then we shopped around a little, before going to Ma Maison, a Japanese western cuisine restaurant in bugis. Finally sis had the chance to bring me there, she's been telling me how good the food is.. And i think its really not bad..very very cheesy..but i like..hehehe! After dinner, we rushed down to marina square to look at the fireworks competition..Lots of people were already there when we arrived..But we did manage to find a good spot to stand..Its been a few years since i've last saw fireworks..If i'm not wrong, its the year that i participate in NDP? Since then, we had no such luck in getting tickets for NDP. Anyway, the fireworks were beautiful and spectacular..Some parts did 'wow' the crowd..But i have a burning question to ask, fireworks produce so much smoke, does this contribute to air pollution? Has anyone thought of this environmental issue?
I did some research, and here are the findings:
-- David Hiebert, Scottdale, PA
The fall-out from these exhibitions includes a variety of toxic pollutants that rain down on neighborhoods from coast to coast, often in violation of federal Clean Air Act standards.
Depending on the effect sought, fireworks produce smoke and dust that contain various heavy metals, sulfur-coal compounds and other noxious chemicals. Barium, for instance, is used to produce brilliant green colors in fireworks displays, despite being poisonous and radioactive. Copper compounds are used to produce blue colors, even though they contain dioxin, which has been linked to cancer. Cadmium, lithium, antimony, rubidium, strontium, lead and potassium nitrate are also commonly used to produce different effects, even though they can cause a host of respiratory and other health problems.

This issue scares me..So, who still supports fireworks? and should it be banned??
