Life is so vulnerable..
The EOT board was not that good yesterday..Morning staff worked all through their shift, and we worked through our afternoon shift too..We even did a spine laminectomy..Then, at about 7pm we got a fax for a laparotomy, and some uro thing..Well, this uncle has intestinal obstruction, and needs op..But he has a high risk of cardiac arrest due to his heart condition..The surgeons explained to him his risk, and told him drectly that he might die from this operation, but if he doesn't go for this operation he would die too..The poor uncle remained calm, but i could see that he was so scared as his hands and body was already shaking rigorously..If i didn't see him so composed, i think i would have burst into tears with him..
Dr Shirley called his family to explain to them, and we proceeded with the operation. We had so many things stand-by for him jsut in case he goes into cardiac arrest..We set IA, CVP, Swan-ganz sheath, we hooked him up to the AED, pasted defib pads on him, dobutamine, adrenaline, noradrenaline all ready for dilution. I think its my first time seeing such a high risk pt for op..Bcause normally, these patients would be referred to the cardiologist, and have his condition stabalised before coming for the op, but well i guess this uncle had no choice..After we intubated the patient, and just started to settle, it was already 9pm. I passed over to the night staff, and i went home soon after..First thing i woke up tis morning, i smsed fiza asking her how is the pt, and she told me he was well intra-op, then is transferred to ICU intubated..phew..Hope he is doing well.. :)
I really could sympathise with the uncle, its like his life is really in the hands of the surgeons, and god..
So, moral of the story is, we should really live life to the fullest each day..Don't live with any regrets in your life..
One more thing i'm gonna accomplish in my life today: Go Aussieland!! hehehe.. ^.^
Take care, friends!
